The Work

My subject is color. My work emerges through the engagement with the materials themselves. Paintings are rarely planned or preconceived. The first mark leads to the next, and over time, the painting unfolds. My painting process is intuitive, exploring color relationships and the space and light created within and around color.

I like a feeling of space and simplicity in finished work. I find it grounding. True, unedited freedom in my work shows up in primitive, almost childlike shapes, marks, and blocks of color. I want the work to spark a wordless, visceral experience of beauty and aliveness — a pure, energetic interaction with color and form, space and light.

Laurie Fisher

I live on the coast of Maine. Maine’s natural beauty — the salt air, the sea, the jagged coast, and all of its moods and seasons — all inform and inspire the mood in the studio and the work itself.
